Description

The official currency of the Russian Federation. Introduced in 1998 after denomination. The ₽ symbol was approved in 2013 and included in Unicode 8.0 in 2014.

History

The word "ruble" comes from the verb "to chop". Historically, the ruble was a chopped piece of the grivna. The modern ₽ symbol was developed as a result of a national competition in 2013.
