Description

The official currency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The symbol "Fr" stands for "franc". Despite political instability, maintains relatively stable exchange rate.

History

Introduced in 1997, replacing the new zaire at a rate of 1 franc = 100,000 new zaires. Name restored in honor of the historical Congolese franc of the colonial era.
