Description

The official currency of Cape Verde. Uses the $ symbol but is denoted as Esc or CVE to distinguish it. Pegged to the euro at a fixed rate through Portuguese escudo.

History

Introduced in 1914 as Portuguese colonial escudo. After independence in 1975 retained the name and was pegged to Portuguese escudo, then to the euro.
