Description

The official currency of Bhutan. The symbol "Nu." stands for "ngultrum". Pegged to the Indian rupee at 1:1 rate, and Indian rupee is also legal tender in Bhutan.

History

Introduced in 1974, replacing the Bhutanese rupee. The name "ngultrum" comes from the word for "money" in Dzongkha, the official language of Bhutan.
