Description

Historical currency of Belgium, used from 1832 to 2002. Replaced by the euro at a fixed rate of 40.3399 Belgian francs per 1 euro.

History

Introduced in 1832 after Belgium gained independence. Used until the transition to the euro in 1999 (non-cash) and 2002 (cash). The Luxembourg franc was pegged to the Belgian franc.
