Description

The official currency of Argentina. Uses the $ symbol but is denoted as Arg$ or ARS to distinguish it. Has experienced several periods of hyperinflation and devaluations.

History

The modern peso was introduced in 1992 under the Convertibility Plan after a period of hyperinflation. Replaced the austral at a rate of 1 peso = 10,000 australs.
